Panic gripped residents of Swagat Nagar in Hudkeshwar after a highly venomous Common Krait was spotted inside the kitchen of a house late on Tuesday night. The snake was safely rescued following the swift response of a local snake rescuer, preventing a potentially dangerous situation.
The incident occurred around 11 pm at the residence of Rajesh Gupta, located opposite Dharmendra Kirana Store. According to the family, they were watching television when Gupta’s wife entered the kitchen to prepare food and noticed what appeared to be a black rope lying near a basket of vegetables.
As she moved closer to pick it up, the object suddenly slithered, leaving her shocked. She immediately alerted family members, who rushed to the spot and discovered it was a snake.
Recognising the danger, Rajesh Gupta contacted snake rescuer Shubham Parale, who arrived within minutes and began searching the kitchen. The reptile was eventually located beneath a vegetable basket.
Upon inspection, the snake was identified as a Common Krait, one of India’s most venomous species. Parale instructed everyone to maintain a safe distance before carefully rescuing the snake and placing it in a secure container. It was later released into a suitable natural habitat.
Following the rescue, Parale urged citizens not to attempt handling snakes on their own and advised them to immediately contact trained rescuers or the Forest Department in such situations.
“The Common Krait is among the most venomous snakes found in India. Its neurotoxic venom attacks the nervous system and can affect breathing. People should remain calm and seek expert help rather than trying to catch the snake themselves,” he said.
The incident serves as a reminder for residents to remain cautious during the monsoon season, when snake sightings typically increase as reptiles enter residential areas in search of shelter. Timely action by the family and the rescuer ensured that the situation was brought under control without any harm to residents or the snake.
