The wait is finally over for fans of Mirzapur. The makers on Thursday unveiled the much-anticipated teaser of Mirzapur: The Movie, marking the blockbuster crime franchise’s transition from the OTT platform to the big screen. The film is slated for a theatrical release on September 4, 2026, in Hindi and Telugu.
Directed by Gurmmeet Singh and created by Puneet Krishna, the film brings back the franchise’s most iconic characters, including Kaleen Bhaiya (Pankaj Tripathi), Guddu Pandit (Ali Fazal) and Munna Tripathi (Divyenndu). The teaser promises another high-octane chapter packed with power struggles, revenge and bloodshed, while retaining the gritty tone and signature “bhaukaal” that made Mirzapur a cultural phenomenon.
Produced by Excel Entertainment in association with Amazon MGM Studios, the film is backed by Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar. The ensemble cast also includes Ravi Kishan, Abhishek Banerjee and Jitendra Kumar, adding fresh intrigue to the expanding Mirzapur universe.
One of the biggest highlights of the teaser is the return of Munna Tripathi, whose fate in the web series had left fans believing his story was over. His appearance has sparked widespread speculation about the film’s timeline, with many viewers suggesting that the movie may revisit the events of the early Mirzapur era rather than continue directly from the latest season.
The teaser features intense action sequences, political rivalry, stylised violence and the franchise’s trademark dialogues, signalling a larger-than-life cinematic experience. Within hours of its release, it began trending across social media platforms, with fans praising the return of the original cast while also debating the absence of Vikrant Massey as Bablu Pandit, one of the series’ most beloved characters.
The film marks the first theatrical adaptation of the Mirzapur franchise after three successful seasons on streaming. By taking the story to cinemas, the makers are betting on the enduring popularity of one of India’s most successful crime dramas and hoping to recreate its cult following on the big screen.
