Nagpur Police and the Crime Branch launched a swift operation following the sensational murder of Asad alias Aman Khan near Futala Lake, detaining seven suspects, including four juveniles, within hours of the incident.
The three adult accused have been identified as Jitendra alias Jungli Pandey, Yogendra alias Lala Shivakant Pandey and Deepak alias Prince Gupta. They have been handed over to Gittikhadan Police for further investigation, while the four juvenile suspects are being dealt with as per legal procedures.
According to police, the incident took place on Monday evening near Futala Lake, where a minor altercation between two groups over roasted corn (bhutta) allegedly escalated into a violent clash. During the confrontation, sharp weapons were allegedly used, resulting in the death of Asad alias Aman Khan on the spot.
Another youth, identified as Mayur Jadhav, sustained serious injuries in the attack and is undergoing treatment at a private hospital. Police said Asad, also known as Aman Khan, was reportedly the nephew of history-sheeter Shekhu.
Senior police officers and Crime Branch personnel rushed to the spot soon after the incident was reported. Following a preliminary investigation and the dispatch of the body for post-mortem, multiple police teams launched a coordinated manhunt, leading to the detention of all seven suspects within a few hours.
Investigators are examining whether the murder stemmed from a trivial altercation or was linked to previous enmity or an ongoing gang rivalry. Police said all possible angles are being investigated.
In view of the tension in the area following the killing, additional police personnel have been deployed in the Gittikhadan and Futala localities to maintain law and order and prevent any untoward incidents. The investigation is ongoing.
