An elderly woman tragically lost her life after reportedly coming into contact with an electric current in rainwater near Bisa Baba Dargah in Gausiya Colony under Nagpur Municipal Corporation’s Prabhag No. 30 during heavy rainfall on Wednesday.
According to officials, the incident occurred after waterlogging developed in the area following incessant rains. The victim allegedly received an electric shock while passing through the flooded stretch and died in the incident.
Following the tragedy, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation stated that a detailed technical inquiry into the incident will be carried out by the Electrical Wing of the Public Works Department (PWD), Government of Maharashtra. Based on the findings of the inquiry, necessary repair and corrective work will be undertaken by MSEDCL (Mahavitaran).
NMC Chief Engineer Leena Upadhye said that the exact cause of the electrocution will be determined after the technical investigation, and further action will be taken accordingly. The incident has raised serious concerns over electrical safety in waterlogged areas during the monsoon.
