The Social Security Department of the Nagpur Crime Branch busted an alleged sex trafficking racket under the Ambazari Police Station limits late on Friday night, rescuing five women, including two foreign nationals from Uzbekistan.
Based on specific intelligence that women were being supplied for prostitution through the “Login Personal Meeting” mobile application, the Social Security Department conducted a decoy operation with the help of a bogus customer near Hotel Petal Inn at Gokulpeth.
During the raid, police rescued two women from Uzbekistan and three others from Punjab, Delhi and Kolkata.
Police arrested Sachin Manikrao Mahajan (38), a resident of Bhavani Nagar, Nagpur. Three other accused identified as Sameer alias Manish alias Gagan Thakur, Rahul, and a woman named Pooja are absconding and are being searched.
According to the police, the accused allegedly lured the victims with the promise of earning quick money and forced them into prostitution by arranging customers for their financial gain.
A Swift Dzire car worth Rs 5 lakh, a mobile phone worth Rs 10,000, and Rs 8,000 in cash were seized during the operation, taking the total value of the seized property to Rs 5.18 lakh.
A case has been registered at Ambazari Police Station under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, 1956. Further investigation is underway.
