Nagpur freezes at 4 degree Celsius,Extreme Cold Wave Grips Vidarbha

Severe cold wave has been sweeping Vidarbha with mercury hovering below 10 degree Celsius in all 11 districts of the region. Nagpur is still the coldest place in Vidarbha with a minimum temperature of 4 degree Celsius. According to the meteorological officials the minimum temperature rose marginally by 0.5 degree Celsius last night but it was still 8.6 degrees less than the average minimum temperature of city in December. The minimum temperature fell significantly in many parts of the region in particular Gondia, Akola, Bramhapuri and Gadchiroli.

According to the met officials severe cold wave is sweeping the region with minimum temperature plummeting below 8 degree Celsius in eight districts and below 10 degree Celsius in remaining three districts – Yavatmal, Chandrapur and Amravati. Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Nagpur predicted that severe cold wave condition is likely to prevail at isolated places in Vidarbha for next 48 hours.

Other cities in Vidarbha including Brahmapuri (6.3degree Celsius), Yavatmal (9.4), Gondia (5.2), Akola (5.9), Amravati (8.4), Buldhana (7.5), Chandrapur (8.6), Wardha (7.5) and Washim (7.8) also experienced the winter chill with minimum  temperature reamining below two-digit mark. According to RMC, the East Madhya Pradesh, West Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha and Chhattisgarh are getting affected by severe cold. The north-westerly winds are likely to prevail over northern plains and easterly winds also likely over central India and adjoining plains.

Under this scenario, minimum temperatures are very likely to continue to prevail below normal by 2 to 3 degree Celsius over many parts of plains of north-west, central and east India during next 2 to 3 days.  Due to light to moderate winds and higher relative humidity shallow to moderate fog with isolated dense fog also likely over northern plain during next 3 days.
