Sahajveer Singh Maras and Garima Upadhyay triumphed   Nagpur District Under-7 Chess Champions that was organised by the Nagpur District Chess Association at the DNC College hall on Sunday.

While Sahajveer remained undefeated in the six round tournament, Garima claimed the top honours in the five-round girls’ group. After a tie in both the categories, the winners were declared on the basis of their tie-break scores after implementing the tiebreaker.

In the Open category, three players including Sahajveer, Shounak Badole and Kushagra Paliwal finished the event collecting five points each while Garima and Aneeka Gupta garnered four points apiece in the five-round girls’ group.

The top-two finishers in both the categories will now represent Nagpur in the forthcoming state U-7 championship scheduled to be played at Pune.

Later the prizes were distributed by the hands of Vidarbha Chess Association Secretary, RN Shriwas. On the occasion chief arbiter Pravin Pantawane and Umesh Panbude were present.
