Nationalist Youth Congress, Nationalist Students Congress and NSU staged strong protest opposing the proposed programme of Saturday and demanded Vice-Chancellor Siddharth Kane’s resignation on Friday. The agitating activists accused Kane of organising a programme for Bharatiya Janata Party’s campaigning.

A number of activists including Nationalist Youth Congress President Shailendra Tiwari along with Working President Rudra Dhakde shaved their heads as a mark of protest. Tiwari said they would not allow Saturday’s programme to be held. The university is a place of education where they would not tolerate any party’s campaign. They further questioned as to how an amount of Rs 3 lakh was allotted for the programme without approval of Management Council.

Ajit Singh of NSUI said the programme organised by Hindi Department and Education Forum has nothing to do with Hindi literature. Today, youth need jobs, not Metro and cement roads. We all unitedly condemn Kane, he said.

Nationalist Students Congress leaders Rahul Pandey, Ravi Parate, Rakesh Borikar, Amol Palpalliwar, Amit Pichkate, Sayyed Shahbaz, Sarwar Ansari, Pranay Jambhulkar, Rajat Atkare, Shubham Chandankhede, Chandu Khapre, Akshay Mohadikar, Rahul Waghmare, Jayesh Sontakke, Akash Kothre, Sahil Yadav, from Congress Ashish Mandpe, Pratik Kolhe, Nagesh Ginhe, Nikhil Wankhede, Pranay Singh Thakur, Farman Ali, Shubham Waghmare, Kunal Chaudhary, Akshay Admane and others participated in the agitation.
