A political controversy has erupted in Nagpur ahead of the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) faction’s proposed ‘Ramraksha’ protest, scheduled for July 18. The party had planned to launch the agitation by reciting the Ramraksha Stotra at the Shri Ram Temple in Ramnagar, but the temple administration has denied permission for the event.
According to the temple authorities, no political programmes will be permitted within the temple premises, and the decision has been conveyed clearly to the organisers. The refusal has sparked political debate, as the protest was intended to mark the beginning of the Thackeray faction’s campaign against the BJP.
Adding a political dimension to the issue is the fact that Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis is a lifetime member of the Shri Ram Temple, leading to speculation and discussions in political circles over the timing and nature of the decision.
With permission denied at the temple, attention has now shifted to the Thackeray camp’s next move. Political observers are closely watching where the party will launch the ‘Ramraksha’ agitation and what strategy it will adopt for its protest in Nagpur.
