Pradip Pohane elected Standing Committee chief unopposed

Pradip Pohane, corporator from Prabhag 24 was on Tuesday elected unopposed as Chairman of Standing Committee of Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC).

The election process for the new chief began at 10.30 am on Tuesday as the tenure of incumbent Virendra Kukreja ended at 5 pm. Total four applications proposing Pohane’s names were filed. , Jagdish Gwalbanshi, corporators Yashshree Nandanwar, Sanjay Mahajan and Sonali Kadu were the proposers while corporators Sheshrao Gotmare, Vandana Bhagat Mangala Khekre and Manisha Atkare seconded the proposals. All the four proposals were valid.

Returning Officer and District Collector Ashwin Mudgal declared Pohane as elected unopposed as no application was withdrawn. Mudgal then gave a floral welcome to Pohane. Kukreja along with other members also welcomed Pohane.

Pohane is just 30-year-old and his entire party is devoted to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). His father Vasantrao Pohane is a loyal BJP worker while Pradip is active worker of the party while he was a student. Born on April 26, 1987, Pradip is a resident of Dhoble Layout, Surya Nagar, Bhandara Road. He has handled various responsibilities in Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM).

In the 2012, NMC elections, he got the ticket with the initiatives of MLA Krishna Khopde from Prabhag 34 and he got elected as corporator for the first time at the age of 24. Since 2012 to 2017, he was Director of Agriculture Produce Market Committee and worked as Chairman, Lakadganj Zone in 2013-14.

In the 2017 elections he got elected from Prabhag 24 with 3800 votes and has now been elected unopposed as Chairman, Standing Committee for 2019-2020.
