It is a proud moment that city athlete Jyoti Chavan has qualified for the World Universiade Games to be held at Italy from July 3 to 14.
During 3000 m steeple chase trials held at KIIT University, Bhubneshwar Jyoti, while representing Mangalore University, she achieved second position with a timing 10. 46 seconds. The qualifying timing was 11 min. Komal Jagdale who represented Savitribai Fule university Pune emerged winner with a timing 10.44 seconds.
However her colleague Shital Bhagat who represented same university failed to complete the race. Jyoti is being trained at Sai Training Centre in Bhopal. RTMNU athlete Prajakta Godbole failed to 5000 m time trials. Yesterday she finished second.
On Thursday, she will participate in 10,000 m time trial. On April 5, Nikita Raut will participate in the time trial and there are lot of expectations from her. The lifetime president of Nagpur District Athletics Association Dr Babanrao Taywade, NMC Sports Committee Chairman Nagesh Sahare, LR Malviya, Sharad Suryavanshi, Umesh Naidu, SK Anthony and others have congratulated her for her selection in the Indian team.
