Nagpur fencer Shruti Joshi has been selected to represent India at the World Fencing Championship, which will be held in Hong Kong from July 22 to 30, 2026. Her selection has brought pride to the city and Maharashtra, reflecting years of dedication, discipline and consistent performances at the national level.
Shruti earned her place in the Indian squad through a series of impressive performances in senior national fencing competitions. She is currently training at the Sports Authority of India (SAI) Centre in Kerala under the guidance of coach Sagar Lagu.
Her achievement has been widely applauded by the sporting community, with the Maharashtra Fencing Association and the Nagpur District Fencing Association extending their congratulations and expressing confidence that she will deliver a strong performance for India on the world stage.
Sports enthusiasts believe Shruti’s success will inspire more young athletes from Nagpur to take up fencing and pursue excellence at the highest level.
Speaking after her selection, Shruti credited her parents, coaches and mentors for their unwavering support throughout her journey. She thanked Sagar Lagu, Ankit Gajbhiye, Akash Thakre, Nandkunal Dhanvijay, Damini Rambhad, Rahul Mandavkar, Sagar Bhagat, Aavesh Somkunwar, Yash Sonatakke and Monal Bagde for their guidance.
Maharashtra Fencing Association secretary Uday Dongre, along with Nagpur District Fencing Association president Ajay Sonatakke, secretary Mohd. Shoaib and treasurer Suresh Hajare, congratulated Shruti and wished her success at the championship.
