A gang of sand mafia attempted to crush Revenue Department officer during checking of vehicles involved in illegal sand smuggling near Kharbi check post on Umred road on Tuesday.
The incident occurred today morning around 8:30, when Nayak tehsildar Sunil Salve with his team were inspecting the vehicles suspected smuggling of sand in the area.
The Revenue Department team stopped two overloaded trucks and inquired about the documents and permit from the driver.
Suddenly a speeding brown colour marcedece (MH / 41/8100) came from wrong side took a u-turn and stopped in front of the the Revenue team.
The driver of the marcedece threatened the driver of the trucks to take away the trucks without showing documents. Following this the truck driver fled from the spot.
The Revenue team tried to chase the trucks but by then the two had disappeared.
The Revenue team has filed a complaint at the Nandanvan police station under various sections including attack on Government officer. Further investigation is on.
