Astha Dubey, 5 month baby weighing 3.5 Kg was suffering from VSD – Hole in the heart and hence was not gaining weight. But the hole was so big that it was thought that she might not tolerate the closure of the hole.
But thanks to the new modality of NEONATAL TEE introduced for the first time in Central India, that she was operated successfully and is doing well. Intraoperative TransEsophageal Echocardiography (TEE) was used in this small baby for the first time to assess the VSD before surgery and immediate after surgery to confirm successful closure of the VSD – hole in the heart.
This modality is being used for the first time in such a small baby. The MICRO TEE probe or the NEONATAL TEE probe by Philips is used on a high-end Philips AFFINITY 70G echocardiography machine for excellent assessment of these complex heart conditions in the operation theatre.
This also marks the start of the dedicated centre for Paediatric Cardiac Surgery, Paediatric Cardiology and Paediatric Cardiac Intensive Care. This would the first such centre in Vidarbha. Dr. Sandeep Khanzode, Dr. Pramod Ambatkar, Dr. Vinay Kulkarni and Dr. Shrikant Bobade have started the BABY HEART CENTRE at CENTRAL HOSPITAL, RAMDASPETH.
Dr. Sandeep Khanzode is already practicing in Nagpur for last 10 years as a Central India’s first dedicated Paediatric and Neonatal Cardiac Surgeon. Baby Heart Centre also introduces the state of the art monitoring system – NIRS (Near Infra-Red Spectroscopy) to monitor the babies in the operation theatre and ICU. This system is in use world over and is the current standard of care in OT. Baby Heart Centre is happy to bring this modality in Nagpur for the first time.
