The Tiger is calling and you must go!

Situated in the core of a reserved forest and about 145 Km from Nagpur, Tadoba is one of the oldest and the largest tiger reserves in the state of Maharashtra. With a population of around 90 tigers, the chances of spotting the big cat are quite high. An interesting anecdote about the name Tadoba comes from Taru, which was the name of the god of tribal people who lived in the dense Tadoba region of the forest. It is believed that Taru, who was the chief of the village, was found slain in a legendary encounter with the tiger after which a shrine was built in his memory under a huge tree on the bank of Tadoba Lake.

Did You Know?

Tadoba has an endless agglomeration of species of trees and plants and of course the wildlife like Deer, Barking Deer, Hyenas, Bison, Four Horned Antelope, Sambar, Sloth Bears, Jackals, Wild Dogs, Panthers, Tigers to name a few. Tadoba is a natural cornucopia of the most popular species of Teak and Bamboo along with a huge variety of Flora this place is blessed with. While you would find these never before seen trees, you would also find a very interesting fire-resistant species called AxlewoodAnogeissusLatifolia along with Butea Monosperma which adds a vivacious color to this forest.

Best Time To Visit Tadoba

Tadoba provides an enormous visual treat of wildlife, especially while getting a chance to spot the Big Asian Cat. May is one of the best times to visit the forest. You might just spot tigers taking a stroll or herds of deer just strutting from one place to another. Exploring and witnessing these animals in their natural habitat is nothing short of the most thrilling experience you’ll ever have.

Jungle Safaris and Timings

Gypsy and jeep safaris are always available. Safari timings are:

  • Morning Jeep: 6.00 AM to 10.00 AM (entry allowed until 8.00 AM)
  • Afternoon Jeep: 3.00 PM to 6.00 PM (entry allowed until 4.30 PM)

Best Places To Stay

Accommodation in Tadoba offers luxury stay amidst the verdant forest. These luxury resorts are perched within the vicinity and only a few hundred meters from the Tadoba. You can take evening walks in the most picturesque of these places and hear birds chirp and even spot never seen before birds. These resorts have are equipped with luxury suites and the visitors can have the best combination of jungle safari with the most opulent and warm hospitality. Most of these resorts have cancellation policies from 7 days (50%) to 45 days (10%). For budget options, Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation Hotel and the Forest Development Corporation of Maharashtra guesthouse and dormitories are also prefect for good-comfortable accommodation. Another option is the Eco Huts provided by the Forest Development Corporation of Maharashtra are also good for those who are looking for budget lodging in Tadoba National Reserve.

How To Reach

By Air- Nagpur (145 Km) is the nearest airport from where it takes 3 hour cabs to reach the reserve.

By Rail- Chandrapur (49 Km) and Nagpur (150 Km) are the nearest railheads.

By Road- Nearest bus stop is Chandrapur and Chimur (32 Km), but buses and cabs are also available from Chandrapur to Mohrali village.

To witness this magnanimous solitary giant, don’t wait, pack your bags and head to Tadoba right now!

After almost a century of decline, tiger numbers are on a rise again but much more work is needed to protect this species that’s still highly vulnerable to extinction.
