For the first time in the history of Nagpur, a heart transplant has been performed. A 28-year-old man, Ganesh Chavan, who was suffering from heart deceased, donated Heart, Liver and two Kidneys, on his 32nd birthday.
He has admitted at the KEM hospital Pune on 30th May with Brain stroke. After treating him for six days, the doctors declared him Brain Stem Dead on June 6. The family was counseled by Jasmeet Kaur for Organ donation. ROTTO west region allocated Heart to ZTCC-Nagpur zone.
ZTCC-Nagpur had a suitable recipient for heart in a waiting list for New Era Hospital. Kidneys were allocated to Rubi hall, Sasun Hospital, Liver to KEM Hospital. The Heart reached Nagpur Airport at 12.30 pm. Heart journey started from the airport within Seven minutes it reached New Era Hospital by Green corridor.
He leaves behind his wife and 6 years old son & lives in the life of Four people. The team of doctors who retrieved the heart was Dr. Manoj Durairaj Tx Surgeon, Dr. Shantanu Shastri anesthetist, Prashant Dhumal and Mukesh Adheli retrieved heart from Pune KEM hospital. From the hospital to Pune airport, a green corridor was created by Pune Coordinator Arti Gokhale.
Under the guidance of Commissioner of Police Shri Bhushankumar Upadhyay, DSP Gajanan Rajmane created Green corridor., Police Inspector Jadhav, PSI Tripathi, Sonegoan Police Traffice API Raghuvanshi, PI Shanke, Burdi Trafic PI , Bhandarkar, PI Tijare, PI Dube Retired ACP Jameel Ahmed helped to create it.
ZTCC who coordinated the process of transplant included president Dr. Vibhawari Dani, Secretary, Dr. Ravi Wankhede, Heart subcommittee chairperson Dr. P.K. Deshpande, Dr. Mukund Deshpande, Dr. Shrotey. Nagpur Zone coordinator Veena Wathore coordinated for this allocation.
