The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has revoked the food licences of three eateries in Nagpur after finding violations of provisions under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
The establishments affected by the action are Yarana Hotel located at Hazari Pahad , The Hut at Fetri and Indian Tandoor in Friends Colony.
The action was initiated following a complaint filed by Anyay Nivaran Manch President Jwala Jambuwant Rao Dhote along with social activists Ram Solanke, Mangesh Gaikwad, Mahesh Uike and others. After examining the complaint and conducting an inquiry, the FDA proceeded with cancelling the licences under the directions of Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe.
Reacting to the development, Dhote said the move sends a strong message that violations of food safety norms will not be tolerated and appreciated the FDA for acting swiftly on the matter.
Apart from food safety concerns, the complainants have also raised questions over the legality of the structures housing the three establishments, alleging that they have been built on land without proper authorisation. The complaint further claimed that the hotels were operating without several mandatory clearances, including building permission, a No Objection Certificate from the Fire Department and an Occupancy Certificate.
The Anyay Nivaran Manch said it would continue pursuing cases related to alleged encroachments and regulatory violations, adding that the organisation remains committed to safeguarding public property, land rights and consumer interests through legal channels.
