RST cancer hospital introduces mobile cancer detection van

As a part of upgradation of status from RCC (Regional Cancer Centre) to TCCC (Tertiary Care Cancer Centre) under NPCDCS Programme Initiated by Ministry of Health, Government of India, Rashtrasant Tukdoji Regional Cancer Hospital, added another feather to its cap.

The launching programme of newly-acquired ‘Mobile Cancer Detection Van’ service was held in premises of the rural hospital, Saoner and the state of art van was dedicated to the public by Sunil Kedar, MLA, Saoner and Vice-President, Cancer Relief Society that runs RST Cancer Hospital.

A long-standing dream of screening the rural population for cancer has now been fulfilled by the acquisition of this fully equipped mechanized van. This van has an inbuilt pathology laboratory with auto-analyser and equipment for microbiological examination. It also has a cabin for colposcopy and breast scanning and a third cabin for diagnosis of oral cancer. The bus is fully air-conditioned with Generator backup facility.

It also has an inbuilt 52” LCD TV for display of various awareness videos to the public. The management of RST plans to utilize the van for the rural population of Vidharbha in early diagnosis of common and oral cancer. The screening of all men and women above the age of 30 years shall be done totally free of cost.

NGOs, Clubs and private institutions and organizations who wish to hire the van for camps can do so by payment of a certain fee which shall be charged to meet up expenses incurred on fuel and diagnostic reagents etc.

The Van has been fabricated by AZAEL India Pvt. Ltd, New Delhi and the cost inclusive of all equipment is Rs 1 crore. It was made possible due to funds sanctioned by the Guardian Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule by efforts of Sunil Kedar.

The inauguration of the bus was widely attended by the doctors of Saoner and rural hospital. Director Dr Subhrajit Dasgupta thanked Sunil Kedar and management of CRS for the new acquisition.
