Every after 33 seconds one death is happening because of cardiac disease. There is an alarming rise in risk factors for cardiac disease like Hypertension, dyslipidemia, diabetes mellitus, obesity, and physical inactivity.
On occasion of world heart day Dr. Pankaj Harkut M.D, DNB, D.M, interventional cardiologist Prism Eye and Heart clinic, Laxminagar is organizing a walking and running event Cardiothon at Biodiversity park Ambazari on 29th Sep. 2019 at 6.00 Am. In this event 3 groups are made “FUN WALK†– to walk for 2 km, “HEALTHY RUN†to walk/ run for 5.5 km and “HEARTY RUN†to walk/run for 10 km.
This event will also see the participation of individuals who has undergone angioplasty and bypass surgery in the past to dispel the myth that after cardiac procedures individual can’t be physically active as before.
Because of the change in lifestyle and rapid urbanization, physical activity is drastically reduced in our life. Infect it is now said, sitting can be compared like a habit of smoking of our generation. We at least need to take 10000 steps to prevent cardiovascular diseases but even small physical activity is always better than no physical activity. Regular walking running does have many benefits on cardiac diseases. Like reduction in the incidence of stroke, obesity, diabetes mellitus, cancer, and depression.
Cardiothon is being organized with this idea to cultivate the habit of daily physical activities like walking and running among the citizens of central India particularly of Nagpur & surrounding. Every participant is being asked to be a “Heart Hero†by promising to be more physically active every finisher will get participation medal & certificate. The moto of this event is to promote the idea that the event small step is better than no step.
