Recently it has been reported that the operation theatres (OT) of orthopaedic, ENT and eye care and surgery departments of Mayo hospital were contaminated with fungus. And it has been informed that from the month of June all these OTs were closed down. And Dr.Tatyarao Lahane, director of medical education department who visited the hospital recently has directed to restart these OTs with immediate effect.

And with the help of electricity department of VNIT, they have started the fungus removal work. As per information, after the completion of this work, the OTs would start functioning after Diwali. The point to be noted here is that due this problem more than 500 surgeries are put on hold.

As per reports, in June fungal infection was found in the orthopaedic department due to which surgeries were stopped and shifted to other OT.The same fungal infection were reported in ENT and eye care OTs.Though the surgery department is performing modular surgeries, every day at least two surgeries are performed there. The orthopaedic department made temporary arrangements in a limited way.

ENT department is facing the same issue while eye surgeries are being performed in Daga hospital. As per information, faulty air handling the OTs developed fungal infection. The authorities informed that they will complete the work soon.
