Lackadaisical attitude, various projects in GMCH TB ward remain unfinished

What you call an obvious example for pass the buck attitude, many projects in GMCH remain open eneded. In the last five years, many state and central funded medical projects have been announced. However, til date no initiatives has not taken to complete the projects.

As per information, the GMCH is engaged in preparations for the cancer institute at the TB ward campus and raises many questions regarding the completion of the project.Earlier, a project was introduced regarding the inclusion of the regional institute for paramedical sciences at TB ward which is said to have cost of Rs.164 crore, meant to have 13 under-graduation and graduation course. Again the project dropped unfinished.

After this, a spine injury care centre was proposed in 2016 in TB ward. This also not see the daylight even the government has assured to start the project within 6 months.Another project which has got the same fate is that the project of Geriatric centre in 2018 with a proposed cost of Rs.100 crore in which the union government was going to bare 60 percent of the expense and state will bare the remaining 60 percent. And the same happened with Lung institute project with a cost of Rs.600 crore. As per the sources, the proposed project of cancer institute with a budget of Rs.76.26 crore.A Rs.20 crore for buying equipment has already approved. On the contrary, the space for this project is not finalised.

The Dean of the GMCH Dr.Sajal Mitra has stated that space for this project will get clarity within a week or two as well as the tender will be floated next month. He also added that Rs.76 crore budget and Rs.120 crore for buying equipment has ben proposed.

Here, it is important to note that Maharashtra has over 50 medical colleges in which the government has given nominal 4 percent of its total expenditure on health which itself indicates the negligence towards the healthcare sector of the state.
