DR Sameer Arbat, Interventional Pulmonologist from Department of Pulmonology, KRIMS Hospitals organised the VIP Summit on 26th January 2020. This was the third annual VIP Summit.
VIP Summit 2020 was a one-day conference & workshop in recent advancements in Interventional Pulmonology. The summit included lectures followed by a hands-on workshop. The delegates attending were doctors and post graduate students from medical colleges of
Nagpur, Wardha and surrounding cities. The eminent faculty members included Dr Ranganatha and Dr Kedar Hibare from Narayana Hridalaya, Bangalore, Dr Bala Raju from Vishakapatnam and Dr Sameer Arbat, Interventional Pulmonologist from KRIMS Hospitals, Nagpur. Dr Ranganatha spoke on advanced Interventional Pulmonology technique of Thoracoscopy while Dr Sameer Arbat spoke on Endo-Bronchial Ultra Sound (EBUS) and Cryobiopsy. Dr Kedar spoke on Basic Bronchoscopy and conventional TBNA technique and Dr Bala Raju presented a talk on Hot Therapies and Tools in Bronchoscopy.
This was followed by hands-on workshop where delegates got to use these advanced diagnostic machines by themselves.
Most of the newer machines used in Interventional Pulmonology are very expensive and available with limited hospitals in the country.
Interventional Pulmonology is a relatively new branch of pulmonology which deals with advanced machinery which is used to perform minimally invasive procedures for diagnosis of lung cancer and other diseases.
The event was organized by the Department of Pulmonology, KRIMS Hospitals, which is the only centre in central India to have a fully equipped Interventional Pulmonology unit. Dr Sameer Arbat, Program Director of VIP Summit, has performed more than 800 Interventional Pulmonology procedures. Dr Sameer is an international teaching faculty on Cryobiopsy and has received many awards on national and international platforms for his work in Interventional Pulmonology. Other dignitaries present at the event were Dr Radha Munje, President Vidarbha Chest Association, Dr Sushant Meshram, HOD GMC and Dr Rajesh Swarnakar, Secretary ICS.
