Bante’s blitzkrieg leads Rajendra to big win

Himanshu Bante’s scintillating knock of an unbeaten 55 runs in 34 balls led Shri Rajendra High School to a convincing nine-wicket win in Nagpur on Monday. The opening batsman’s aggressive half-century helped Rajendra chase 81 in just 10 overs against Jain International School in the Boys’ U-16 category of Mumbai Indians Junior Cricket Tournament at the Mecosabagh Ground.

Batting first, Jain International batsmen failed to apply themselves in search of a challenging total. They were bowled out for just 80 runs in 27 overs. Bante then made short work of the low chase to guide his team home along with Aniket Askar (16 not out) after losing just one wicket.

In the Boys’ U-14 category match at Kurvey’s Ground, Tejas Munjewar’s all-round effort wasn’t enough for GH Raisoni Vidyaniketan. He took six wickets to restrict Podar World School’s total to 168 all-out in 23.4 overs.

Munjewar played his part in the chase as well by scoring 30 runs of 23 balls but he didn’t get good support from the rest of his team-mates. GH Raisoni Vidyaniketan’s innings folded up for 116 runs in 23.2 overs, thereby handing Podar World School an emphatic 52-run win.

Munjewar however, walked away with ‘Player of the Match’ title for his outstanding performances despite ending in the losing team.

In another match in the Boys U-14 category, Ronit Sahare of New English High School took four wickets to star in his school’s 23-run win over SS International School at the Buddha Ground. Sahare’s disciplined bowling effort helped New English to defend a low total of 122/9 in 25.1 overs. SS International’s innings was restricted to 99 all-out in 17.4 overs.
