It has been reported that around 400 lawyers who are members of the High Court Bar Association (HCBA) have been adjudged defaulters for not paying their membership fees until December 31; 2019.Due to this, these lawyers will not be able to vote in the association’s elections. The election for association’s 16 posts is to take place on April 3.
Earlier,the members were given the last date to pay their membership fees by 4.30 pm on February 27, 2020.This time limit was extended to Monday 1 pm.After giving all the deadlines, around 400 lawyers have failed to renew their membership.
A primary list of 1801 members has thus been published as per the fees paid until January 31, 2020.A hearing will take place on objections received till 4.30 pm on March 6 and then final list of voters will be published. The association’s committee comprises a chairman, two vice-chairmen, secretary, joint secretary, library in-charge, treasurer and nine committee members.
