NTPC Mauda Increases Fly Ash Utilization as Power Plant Ties Up with Cement Manufacturers

1NTPC Ltd’s Mauda Super Thermal Power Station has successfully transported 3186 MT of dry fly ash in 51 BCCW wagons to Rajshree Cement (A unit of Ultratech Cement) Kalburgi, in the state of Karnataka on 01 November 2020. Shri Dileep Kumar, Chief General Manager (NTPC Mouda) flagged off the rake which marked the beginning of the process. With this accomplishment, NTPC Mouda has become the first one among other NTPC stations in the state of Maharashtra to send dry fly ash through rail in such a heavy quantity. The power producer is leveraging Indian Railways’ sprawling network to transport fly ash in an economical and environment friendly manner.

During the financial year 2019-20, almost 23.57 lakh metric tonnes of fly ash was utilised for various productive purposes by NTPC Mouda. The power plant produces approximately 25 Million Tonnes of Ash annually, out of which 80% (approx. 20 Million MT) is Fly Ash. Presently, 100% of total ash is being utilized for production of cement and fly ash bricks, road embankment construction, low-lying land development, and ash dyke raising, etc.

By venturing into this medium of transport, NTPC Mauda is tapping into new opportunities of sending fly ash across the country by making use of the sprawling Indian Railways Network.

NTPC Mauda located near the Mouda town of Nagpur district has the installed capacity of 2320 MW with two units of 500 MW and two units of 660 MW.
