The city is preparing to witness a unique and novel marriage ceremony on December 20 at 5 pm at Sadbhavana Lawns, opposite CID Office, Police Line Takli. The bride and bridegroom who is orphan, deaf and mute will tie a nuptial knot in the ceremony. Maharashtra Home Minister, Anil Deshmukh and his wife Aarti Deshmukh are the hosts of bride’s side while District Collector Ravindra Thakre and his wife Jyotsna Thakre will be the hosts of bridegroom’s side.
Both bride and bridegroom are the adopted children of noted social worker Shankarbaba Papalkar.Varsha was an orphan girl who is hearing and speaking impaired and was found at Nagpur Railway Station about 23 years ago. She was admitted to late Ambada spant Vaidya orphanage in Wazzar in Amravati district. Shankarbaba Papalkar adopted her and completed her education. Sameer, an orphan with hearing and speech disabilities, was found in Dombivali. He was also adopted by Shankarbaba Papalkar and completed his education. The rituals of marriage of this unique ceremony have been started at the residence of Anil Deshmukh. Daughter-in-law of Anil Deshmukh, Riddhi Deshmukh welcomed both bride and bridegroom.
