State Government issued order for recruitment in NMC Fire & Emergency Services Department

The efforts of State Energy and Nagpur District Guardian Minister bring results as the Maharashtra Government has given green signal for recruitment of fireman and other vacant posts.  The NMC had made unjustified rules regarding promotions and recruitment of fireman. The State Government has made changes according to the initiative by Dr  Nitin Raut. This has resulted in the way of priority for the local youths.

In this regard, the State Government issued a Government decision on March 18. The Live Nagpur had also raised the issue that NMC Fire and Emergency Services Department was operating with only 60 firemen.  Against the sanctioned posts of 872 on various levels, the Department was operating with only 178 people, hence the requirement of 466 posts on the various levels has to be filled.

NMC in 2016 had decided to appoint and promote employees and officers and the proposal was sent to the State Government for approval. Due to the error in the qualification and promotions rules the proposal was returned by the State Government. Again after rectifying the error Commissioner had sent the proposal for approval.

Of these service rules and promotion, the Municipal Commissioner had sent this proposal to the State Government for improved approval. Changes were made in the qualification of a chief fireman, fireman, mechanic cum driver posts.

Guardian Minister’s initiative

Guardian Minister of Nagpur District Dr. Nitin Raut had taken the initiative. Dr Raut in October had given a letter to the State Government. He mentioned that only 202 posts of 872 posts of NMC Fire and Emergency Service  Department were filled, while  670 posts are vacant. Due to this, the Department was unable to perform its duty diligently, Dr. Nitin Raut pointed out.

According to the old proposal, there was no scope for the students studying in the city for service in NMC Fire Department. The candidates who were studying in Nagpur city, Dr. Raut discussed the issue with Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and Urban Development Minister Eknath Shinde and rectified it.

Scope of employment for the Local youths

Now the local youth can also apply for these posts of Lead Fireman-Rescuer, fireman, Mechanic  cum  Driver Incharge. According to the old rule only those who took training at State Fire service Training Institute, Mumbai only could apply, but now with the new GR students who have done ITI or taken training from local self Government institutes are eligible. Prior to the post of Chief Mechanic cum Driver or fitter cum driver, a person who had done three years service, on the basis of seniority was eligible, but now according to the new GR HSSC passed, done motor mechanic course from ITI, diesel mechanic course or equivalent, having heavy vehicle driving license, able to read write and speak Marathi and have done MSCIT are eligible.

Chief Fire Officer Rajendra Uchake, while talking to The Live Nagpur informed that 466 posts on the various level have to be filled. He said, “Though we have received green signal for the recruitment, it’s a long and tedious task to make the Department complete with  proper human resources.”
