A road traffic incident occurred at approximately 3:00 AM on 20 July 2026 on the Mumbai–Nagpur carriageway of the Samruddhi Mahamarg near Interchange (IC) 80.
A container truck carrying ethanol overturned on the carriageway, completely blocking traffic in the Mumbai-to-Nagpur direction. Subsequently, a truck collided with the rear of a four-wheeler at the same location. Tragically, four occupants of the four-wheeler, all members of a family from Wardha district, lost their lives.
At present, teams from the Highway Safety Patrol (HSP), Wardha Police, Fire Brigade, and MSRDC are at the spot carrying out rescue and restoration operations. Since the overturned container is carrying highly inflammable ethanol, it is necessary to first empty the container before it can be safely removed. This operation is being undertaken with utmost caution to ensure public safety.
Meanwhile, traffic from the Mumbai-to-Nagpur carriageway is being diverted onto the opposite carriageway, resulting in congestion in the affected stretch.
Traffic Advisory:
- Motorists travelling from Nagpur towards Mumbai are advised to avoid using the Samruddhi Mahamarg up to Wardha for the next few hours. They are requested to use the Nagpur–Amravati Highway and rejoin the Samruddhi Mahamarg through the Amravati Gate interchange.
- Motorists travelling from Mumbai towards Nagpur are requested to exit the Samruddhi Mahamarg at the Amravati Gate interchange and continue their journey via the Nagpur–Amravati Highway to reach Nagpur.
The inconvenience caused to commuters is regretted. These measures are being taken in the interest of public safety and to facilitate the safe clearance of the accident site.
Further updates on the restoration of traffic will be issued every two hours.
