Cooking oil prices have risen across the board in domestic markets, driven by increased shipping and import costs amid global trade uncertainty and geopolitical tensions, adding to consumer strain ahead of the festive season. Wholesale rates have climbed by Rs 6-7 per kg, with a 15-kg tin now costing Rs 50-60 more than before.
Traders expect further increases as demand rises with the approach of Raksha Bandhan, Janmashtami, Ganeshotsav and Diwali, when households, sweet shops, snack makers and the hospitality sector all step up oil purchases.
A 15-kg tin of palmolein oil now costs Rs 2,550-2,570, while cottonseed oil is priced at Rs 2,600-2,650 per tin. Among per-kg rates: soybean oil rose from Rs 162 to Rs 168, rice bran oil from Rs 162 to Rs 170, groundnut oil from Rs 194 to Rs 200, sunflower oil from Rs 194 to Rs 200, and mustard oil from Rs 192 to Rs 200.
The hike adds to pressure from rising prices of LPG cylinders, pulses and spices, which have already strained household budget leaving consumers facing higher festive shopping costs this year.
