IIM-N imparting modern skills to its students: Dr Metri

It has been two years since the countrywide lockdown was first imposed after the COVID-19 virus was on a rampage. Since then some physical activities had to be restricted for safety concerns. But even after two years schools and colleges are closed for physical classes and are allowed to function online. This decision gave the educational institution an opportunity to introduce a new method of teaching and to use all the resources in digitalization mode.

The second COVID wave forced Board and college management to take new measures for the students’ benefits and to come up with an effective solution is working out examinations and results, which would not affect them in the future.

Even the colleges conducting MBA courses had to opt for online mode and make necessary changes for the academic sessions.

Dr. Bhimaraya Metri, Director IIM Nagpur informed The Live Nagpur that IIM Nagpur was the first management institutions in the country to start its teaching and admissions process online,  in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Sharing details about the selection process for various IIM institutes Dr. Metri informed that “Even though changes have been made in the result computation by various institutes, it will not affect any students as every student has to appear for the entrance test”.

Dr. Metri said “It will depend on how well the results are curated by the management. Adequate care has been taken to minimise the mistakes.

When other management institutes are facing problems of vacant seats IIM never faced any difficulty in getting students, even during the COVID-19 pandemic.

‘Online has become the Mainline’ and the mainline has become offline since the COVID-19 hit the country”, he said about the new method of admission, examination and results.

“The way we use to teach in physical classes was much different from the new methods. Online classes  have been adopted. We have taken steps so that the attention of students is not diverted. For this our facility members use stimulation. They use different case studies, different assignments, followed by discussions.. We have adopted the pedagogy which is suitable for online in IIM. Even alumni are involved in mentoring the present students. With the updated software for online teaching, the chances of malpractices have been eliminated, Dr. Metri said.

“The faculty members also have to become students and learn continuously and then teach the students. The future belongs to such institutions that adapt and evolve with time and make advancement with the technology”, he said.

Dr. Metri said that normally 10% hike in fees every year is allowed. But due to the Covid-19 situation the fees has not been increased.

“I think that there won’t be any adverse effect in getting jobs. But the students will be equipped with knowledge related to consultation, marketing, business analysis, and the digital world. Digitalization is the new generation’s skill set which is what the industry needs” he added.

IIM Nagpur has been among the top business schools in the recent times. IIM Nagpur has now introduced many new programs for PhD students and for working professionals as well.
