Finally, after a wait of more than four years, Nagpur got its first Transgender Public Toilet at Lakadganj area near Kachi Visa Oswal community Hall. It is said to be the first public toilet in Vidarbha as well.
Since 2016, the demand for public toilets for transgender was raised by the community along with separate hospital wards, Sex reassignment surgery (SRS) facilities by hospitals said Anand Chandani President of Sarthi trust.
“We are happy that the community got its first public toilet, although it should have been located in those areas which have a majority of population like Hansapuri, Momenpura Khadan, Mariam Nagar, civil lines and Taj Bagh†Anand said. “We hope that civil administration will open more of such facilities for the community. If the administration does not have extra money then they can even convert the existing toilets which are not in use for transgender†Anand suggested.
