Prepare scheme to increase percentage of voting: Election Commission

The State Election Commission has asked various municipal corporations in Maharashtra to prepare a novel scheme for increasing percentage of voting during the corporation elections in 2022.

The Commission held an online meeting of the municipal corporation officers and Public Relations Officers recently in view of forthcoming elections. This instruction came from the Commission in this meeting. Mahesh Dhamecha, Deputy Commissioner (Acting), Dinkar Umredkar, Social Development Officer, and Manish Soni, PRO, participated in the meeting.

The Commission has also asked the officials to make efforts to create awareness among the public about importance of polling so as to increase the percentage. It also asked transgender, persons with disability and others to cast their votes in the elections.

Dhamecha gave information about different activities saying that Nagpur Municipal Corporation was creating awareness through graphics and videos through social media. Moreover, efforts are also being made through Smart City VMAS and public announcement system by appealing people to register their names in the voters’ list, he added.
