Now permit for selling cakes & chocolate from home will be mandatory

According to the Food Safety and Standards Act of 2006, all vendors who create various delicacies at home, such as cakes and chocolates, must now obtain a permission.

The vendors of these commodities will have to pay a punishment of Rs 5 lakh if the cake supplied from their houses does not have a quality tag. There are numerous benefits to the Act. Previously, problems about compensation under the PAF would be resolved in court. Only serious matters will now be brought before these courts. Non-serious disagreements will henceforth be resolved at the divisional level in five to six months.

In fact there are 51,837 permits for transactions below Rs 12 lakh per annum while for annual turnover of less than Rs 12 lakh, the number of permits is 10382.

Basic registration can be accomplished within seven days while the renewal of State and Central permits can be done in 30 days online. Pending application for obtaining or renewal of permit, the ven dors can continue their business activities.

Under the law, it is also necessary to display the certificate of permit in the front portion of the estab lishment so that buyers can purchase the goodies from the vendor with confi dence. Meanwhile, assis tant commissioner (Food) FDA Abhay Deshpande said hotel, restaurant, retail and wholesale sellers of edibles must obtain per mit of FDA before start of business. FDA always car ries out flash checking of commercial establishments.
