NMC to take strict action against defaulters in wedding programmes

In view of increasing cases of Omicron/Corona in the city, Nagpur Municipal Corporation has issued orders on Thursday asking that only 50 persons would be allowed to attend marriage ceremonies in open lawns, non-airconditioned mangal karyalayas, hotels and halls by maintaining social distancing otherwise NMC will charge fine to them.

Radhakrishnan B, Municipal Commissioner, while issuing the orders, asked the managements to inform the Assistant Municipal Commissioner of the concerned zone within 15 days. They should also submit a schedule of the marriage programme bookings during this period. The Asstt Municipal Commissioners, their representatives, police inspectors, or higher officers would personally visit the venue to examine whether the rules are being followed or not. The management would be liable for action if they found the program is held any other day than the schedule.

Radhakrishnan B pointed out that the NMC would charge Rs 25,000/- fine and if found not following covid-19 rules for the second time then it would seal the place.

Moreover, it is necessary that all the participants should wear masks not handkerchiefs, and maintain a 6’ distance in between them. A person wearing a handkerchief would be liable to pay a fine. Persons having completed two doses of vaccination would only be allowed to go inside. The managements have to make arrangements for sanitizer, soap, water, thermal scanner etc.

The violators would be booked under the Epidemic Diseases Prevention Act, 1897, and Disaster Management Act, 2005 and taken action, Radhakrishnan B pointed out.
