‘Expedite modernisation work of Mankapur Sports Complex’

Sunil Kedar, Minister for Dairy Development, Animal Husbandry, Sports and Youth Welfare, asked the authorities concerned to expedite the work of modernisation of sports complex at Mankapur like that of  Balewadi Krida Sankul.

He was speaking while taking a review of Mankapur sports complex here on Saturday. Shekhar Patil, Deputy Director, Avinash Pund, District Sports Officer, Architect Bhise, NCC officers and others were present in the meeting.

Kedar further said that the officers should create a shopping complex there on the lines of Mumbai.

On the occasion, Shekhar Patil said that the work would gain momentum if 21 acres of land belonging to Sports Department is given to contractors on 30 years lease period in lieu of construction of shopping complex. In response, Kedar said that he would think the issue seriously and then give sanction.

He wanted that the officials should give stress on starting squash game and ensure how the youths can give encouraging response to it plus creating sports club. The minister asked the officials to make planning for completing modernisation work of the complex by December 31, 2023 adding that they should make planning immediately and start the activities.

It was informed in the meeting that the complex would have commercial complex, open stadium for football and hockey ground on first floor. There is a plan to start aero modelling show at this complex. The show will have 29 aero models and 20 horse riders and around 1200 players would come for this show from different places in the country. Kedar gave instructions to utilise services of NCC cadets, scouts and guides.
