Dispose of disposables before July 1

Disposable plastic spoons, forks, glasses, cups and other cutlery items will not be available in Maharashtra. Ice candies will not have plastic sticks, cigarette packets will not have plastic covers, plastic carry bags will not be given by shop owners. Even ear buds will not have plastic sticks.

Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) has issued a notification putting total ban on ‘one time use’ plastic from July 1, 2022. Although the first notification was issued by the Central Pollution Control Board and MPCB last year in August, some period was granted to stop manufacturing, distribution, sale of the single use plastic items. From July 1, the directions will be enforced strictly.

Use of plastic invitation cards, flags, wrapping material, thermocol (Polystyrene), plastic or PVC banners (less than 100 micron thickness) is banned under the new directive.

Any specific guidelines for water bottles or PET bottles have nt been issued.
