IMD predicts rainfall for next five days in several states

Heavy to very heavy rainfall will continue to strike some states while some will receive a fresh spell of intense showers during the next five days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted on Sunday.

As per the latest weather update, intense rainfall is likely to continue over Telangana, coastal Andhra Pradesh and south Chhattisgarh on 10th and 11th July.

Also, a fresh spell of rainfall is likely over Gujarat, Goa, central Maharashtra and coastal Karnataka from 12th July. Maharashtra has witnessed heavy rainfall in the past few days with alerts issued for Mumbai for next few days.

In Gujarat, the Auranga river is overflowing and flooding low-lying areas in Valsad district due to heavy rainfall. So far, around 300 people have been shifted by the local administration to safer locations.

The IMD today said that fairly widespread to widespread rainfall with isolated heavy rainfall is very likely over Chhattisgarh, Vidarbha, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Kerala, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Karnataka during next 4-5 days.

For the northern region, the weather office has forecast rainfall over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh during the next 5 days. “Isolated heavy rainfall likely over Punjab on 10th, 13th & 14th; Haryana-Chandigarh on 13th & 14th; West Rajasthan on 10th and over East Rajasthan during 11th-14th July, 2022,” it said.

Also, Himachal and Uttarakhand will continue to witness heavy rainfall till July 14.

In Maharashtra, a flood-like situation had occurred in different areas of the Gadchiroli district due to heavy rainfall in the region. Hundreds of people were moved to sdafer places due to flooding of the area.

In neighbouring Karnataka, incessant rain caused waterlogging in many areas. Due to heavy rainfall, Madagh Masur lake was completely filled with water.

In the past 24 hours, extremely heavy rainfall occured at isolated places over Telangana, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, east Madhya Pradesh and Coastal Karnataka.
