19 cyclists completed 1000 km brevet

Nagpur Randonneurs successfully conducted one thousand km BRM-Brevet on August 13 to commemorate the 75th anniversary of Independence Day.

A total of 48 riders registered for the event. Municipal commissioner of Nagpur B. Radhakrishnan flagged off the riders.

The event received a good response as apart from Nagpur, riders from Mumbai, Thane, Pune, Nashik, Aurangabad, Ahmednagar, Chandrapur, Warud, and Bhopal participated in big numbers.

Of the total 48 riders, 19 riders finished the ride in the stipulated time of 75 hrs.

The successful finishers were Jasmit Singh Wadhwa from Ahmednagar, Xersis Rustom Tampal from Mumbai, Devanand Meshram from Warud, Amol Ramteke, Atul Kadu and Dilip Warkad from Nagpur, Leena Patankar from Pune, Ashish Gajbe, Sumit Ghate, Shakir Ukani, Vikas Bhat and Abdul Abid Qureshi from Chandrapur and Ganesh Kuwar, Dattatray Chakor, Ramdas Sonawane, Rahul Sonwani, Unmesh Marwade, Litesh Yelave, Lukesh Bhongade from Nashik. The riders went to Hyderabad via Hinganghat, Pandharkawada, Adilabad, Nirmal and came back to Nagpur.

The ride started on August 13 and ended on August 16. It was a tough ride with an elevation gain of 5000 mtrs with powerful winds and rains throughout the ride.

Ride Responsible Jitesh Thakkar along with Vikas Patra, Samir Lohi and Anand Kasture marshalled the entire route while Aniruddha R, Aniruddha Kulkarni, Sudarshan Verma, Yogesh Dapurkar, Sneha Barve, Urmila Dhanke, Ankita Pusadkar, Mangesh Pahade volunteered the start and end point.

BRM is a long-distance cycling event covering a distance in allotted time frame -200km (13.5hrs) 300 km (20hrs), 400 km (27hrs), 600 km (40hrs), 1000 km (75hrs).

This is considered as one of the toughest endurance sports event wherein the riders brave out the sun, wind, rains, sleep, and exhaustion that tests rider’s grit, determination and dedication in attempting to achieve the given target.

Brevets are becoming popular across the country and Nagpur’s contribution in popularizing it is noteworthy. Nagpur Randonneurs is among the top 10 clubs in the country.
