Despite tall claims of conducting examinations smoothly, and announcing results in time, the fallacies in the functioning of Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University are being exposed. Another example of blunders the University committed during the summer 2022 examinations came to light on Thursday.
The examination was of B Ed Second Semester and the paper was in ‘Gandhian philosophy Nai Talim and Community Engagement Methodology’. The examination is being held offline with Multiple Choice Question (MCQ) system. Under Question no. 39 four options of answer have been given. The question was ‘Originator of basic education’ – A) Ravindranath Tagore, B) Mahatma Gandhi, C) Dr Zakir Hussain, D) Mahatma Gandhi.
The question itself is incomplete and the options in the answer column have Mahatma Gandhi’s name twice.
The University had allowed home college as an examination centre and the teacher in the subject was made to frame the question paper. Prior to this, the teacher was required to prepare a question bank and make it available to the students. The papers are to be evaluated by the same teacher and marks to be submitted online to the University.
Leakage of question papers in Bhandara and Gondia was reported. Teachers guiding their own students not to write answers in case of confusion and they themselves ticked the ‘right’ answer. On three occasions questions ‘out of syllabus’ were included by social work teachers.
Boasting of being an ‘A Grade’ university, RTMNU is fast losing the faith of the students and their parents. Fast degrading enrolment for higher education at the University is an indication.
The authorities, instead of taking steps to correct the situation, have stopped talking to the media. They have also stopped providing proper replies to the questions raised by members of various University bodies. With a large number of members ‘nominated’ by the VC and are affiliated to a certain group, either support the University authorities or remain tight-lipped on many issues.
