Nagpur Commissioner of Police, Amitesh Kumar sets conditions for city’s New Year party eve

After two years of Covid-imposed limitations, the city is getting ready to ring in the New Year with a number of events planned. Even though Covid is once again a threat, establishments including pubs, restaurants, and party planners anticipate a successful new year’s eve.

Parties are being organized in a lot of lounges, bars, and large hotels. Numerous open gatherings are being planned on lawns and in other locations throughout the suburbs. The operators of wine shops and bars feel that the state government’s decision to prolong their hours till 5 a.m. Additionally, there are worries that a lot of individuals would get drunk and create accidents.

Amitesh Kumar, the commissioner of police, said that since the government has permitted bars to stay open until 5:00 am, groups may stay out till that time as long as they have the necessary licenses. He added “ Till now we have not received any application for open parties. But the timings for using the loudspeakers in open spaces is mid-night. Parties in open places will have to shut the loudspeakers at midnight and can continue if they have proper permits from the state excise department. It will be only for parties where people are being charged for the entry.”

Meanwhile the State Excise Department till December 27, 2022, received only 11 applications for one-day permits for serving liquor, out of which eight of them were commercial.

In addition to this, State Excise Superintendent, Surendra Manpiya said “ We have appointed eight teams which will be active on December 31, 2022. Checkpoints at five locations will be in place from December 28, 2022, to keep a tab on smuggling of liquor from neighboring states.”
