Flipkart to host fourth edition of ‘Crafted By Bharat’ on Republic Day

The fourth edition of the Flipkart Samarth “Crafted by Bharat” event, which will be held on January 26 and 27, 2023 in celebration of India’s 74th Republic Day, is announced today by Flipkart, India’s own online marketplace. With over 100,000 items from more than 300 different art forms, the event will honor India’s rich handicraft and hand-loom culture.

The purpose of “Crafted By Bharat” is to give Indian weavers and craftsmen a platform to be recognised and exhibit their admirable work that has helped to preserve culture and traditions. The items for sale at this event are examples of both art and history, and they help the artists who rely on sales of their goods for a living. To recognise the uniqueness that women sellers bring to the table, Flipkart will also have a dedicated storefront on the platform for the event, under which products specifically from women sellers will be highlighted.

The event will introduce people to works of art like “Rajasthani furniture,” which is intricately crafted by Rajasthani artisans, “Dokra Art,” which is an embodiment of the deeply held beliefs and values of the tribal community and their sacred form of art, “Bamboo Jewelry,” and “Tant Saree,” which represents the state of West Bengal’s ancient crafting tradition

Participating in the event will be thousands of artisans, weavers, people with disabilities, women from SHGs, and employees of government shops nationwide who are part of the Flipkart Samarth programme. People from Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities, a few urban centres, and rural areas of the nation are among them. The event will feature participation from numerous public and private brands as well as local businesses from all over the nation.

Rajneesh Kumar, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer, Flipkart Group, said, Since the launch of ‘Samarth’ in 2019, we have empowered more than 1.5 million sellers, weavers, and artisans and feel proud of our contribution to traditional Indian arts and crafts. We remain committed to providing opportunities to indigenous and underserved businesses to leverage the online medium for growth, resilience, digital transformation and prosperity. ‘Crafted by Bharat’ event enables small enterprises and artisans to be recognized beyond their own communities, access a nationwide market, and contribute to the larger economy. Our constant endeavour is to bring customers closer to India’s rich heritage and support the entrepreneurial journey of Bharat’s artisans and weavers.”

A nationwide initiative called Flipkart Samarth was introduced in 2019 with the goal of expanding e-commerce-based growth opportunities for MSMEs, artisans, and underserved communities. To assist small businesses in launching their operations on the Flipkart marketplace, Flipkart Samarth offers time-limited incubation, onboarding support, free cataloguing, marketing support, account administration, business insights, and warehousing support.
