Ram and Sita idols to be carved from these stones
Two huge Shaligram rocks reached Ayodhya from Nepal after covering a distance of 373 kilometers in seven days,. On Thursday, former Deputy Prime Minister of Nepal Vimalendra Nidhi and Mahant Tapeshwar Das of Janaki Temple handed over the rocks to Ram Janmabhoomi Teerthakshetra Trust General Secretary Champat Rai.
The Shaligram rocks were received amid chanting of Vedic hymns. There was a huge crowd of delighted devotees to see the rocks from which idols of Lord Ram and Sita will be carved. The Shaligram stone is stated to be 60 million-year-old.
On reaching Ayodhya on Wednesday night, the chariot was welcomed in a festive atmosphere by showering flowers and playing drums on the bridge of the Sarayu river.
Special arrangements have been made to keep the stones in the Ramjanmabhoomi complex.
These stones were extracted from the holy Kali Gandaki river of Nepal. After anointing and worshiping there, the rocks were dispatched to Ayodhya on January 26.
Mahant Ram Roshan Das, associated with the Janaki temple, said that the Shaligram rock is considered an incarnation of Lord Vishnu.
