During a meet-and-greet with his fans in Mumbai on Wednesday, Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar broke the Guinness World Record for the most selfies taken in three minutes.
Akshay said he is ‘ecstatic on breaking the record and sharing the special moment with his fans. “Everything that I have achieved so far and where I am at this moment of my life, is due to the unconditional love and support of my fans everywhere. This was my way of paying a special tribute to them, of acknowledging how they have stood by me and my work in my entire career,” the actor added.
The actor broke the previously held world record of 168 selfies taken in three minutes by James Smith (USA) aboard the Carnival Dream cruise ship on January 22, 2018. In 2015, Hollywood actor Dwayne Johnson held this record with 105 selfies in three minutes at the premiere of San Andreas in London.
The movie is a legally recognised remake of the Malayalam movie “Driving License.” In the movie, Akshay will play a superstar, and Emraan will play a traffic cop. The plot begins when Emraan’s character approaches Akshay and requests a selfie; when the actor declines, the fan decides to teach the celebrity a lesson.
‘Selfiee’ is produced by the late Aruna Bhatia, Hiroo Yash Johar, Supriya Menon, Karan Johar, Prithviraj Sukumaran, Apoorva Mehta and Listin Stephen. It is set to release in theatres on February 24. Selfiee also stars Diana Penty and Nushrratt Bharuccha.
