Following the tragic bus accident on the Nagpur Samruddhi Mahamarg in Buldhana, the transport department has announced the cancellation of permits for buses found to have violated motor vehicle rules. Strict action will also be taken against the vehicle owners if they are found guilty.
An official from the transport department emphasized that tourist buses must adhere to regulations, including having two drivers and one supporting staff. It is the responsibility of the vehicle owner to ensure that the driver has received sufficient rest before commencing the journey. If investigations reveal any negligence in this regard, the vehicle owner will face severe consequences.
In related news, the All India Motor Transport Congress (AIMTC) has urged authorities to address the issue of overloading following the tragic bus accident on the Samruddhi Mahamarg. Data shows that since the highway’s inauguration in December 2022, 244 cases of speeding vehicles have been detected. CCTV cameras have been effective in curbing speeding incidents, but concerns remain regarding lane cutting and incorrect parking.
Unfortunately, between December 13 and July 1, the Nagpur Samruddhi Mahamarg witnessed 169 road accidents, resulting in the loss of 102 lives. Overall, Maharashtra has experienced a staggering 55,069 road accidents since 2019, with a significantly higher number of male fatalities compared to females. The transport department is actively working to address these issues and improve road safety across the state.
