Bengaluru: An eight-month-old child in Bengaluru has tested positive for Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV), marking the first reported case of the virus in India amidst a surge in infections in China.
The infant, who has no travel history, is currently receiving treatment at a private hospital in the city. The Karnataka Health Department confirmed the diagnosis following medical tests, and the case has been reported to the Union Health Ministry for further monitoring.
HMPV, a respiratory virus known to cause symptoms ranging from mild cold-like conditions to severe respiratory illness, is being closely watched by health authorities given its potential public health implications.
