Consumer Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi announced on Thursday that the Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has issued notices to cab aggregators Ola and Uber over allegations of charging different prices for identical rides depending on the user’s mobile operating system—Android or iOS.
“As a follow-up to the earlier observation of apparent #DifferentialPricing based on the type of mobile models (#iPhones/ #Android), the Department of Consumer Affairs, through the CCPA, has issued notices to major cab aggregators #Ola and #Uber, seeking their responses,” Pralhad Joshi stated in a social media post.
Last month, Pralhad Joshi stressed the need for “zero tolerance for consumer exploitation” and directed the CCPA to conduct a thorough investigation into the allegations. He termed the practice a “prima facie unfair trade practice” and a “blatant disregard” for consumers’ right to transparency.
