A fire broke out at a camp in Mahakumbh Nagar, Prayagraj, on Friday. The incident occurred at Sector 18, Shankaracharya Marg in the Mahakumbh Mela area. Firefighters are at the scene working to control the blaze, and no casualties have been reported so far.
Dense smoke engulfed the fairground, causing panic among nearby akhadas. No casualties have been reported.
Inspector Yogesh Chaturvedi of Khak Chowk police station stated, “A fire broke out at a camp near Tulsi Chauraha on Old GT Road. However, firefighters have largely brought the blaze under control.”
He added that fire department officials are on-site to monitor the situation.
A similar incident occurred last month when a major fire broke out at the Mahakumbh Mela due to a cylinder blast, injuring one person and destroying 18 tents in Sector 19.
Officials said 15 fire tenders controlled the blaze within an hour.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who was in Prayagraj to review preparations for Mauni Amavasya, visited the site and instructed authorities to take preventive measures.
According to a statement, a man named Jaspreet fainted while fleeing the scene, injuring his leg. He was rushed to the Mahakumbh Mela hospital for treatment.
After receiving first aid, Jaspreet was shifted to Swaruprani Medical College in Prayagraj, where his condition was reported to be stable.
The affected area was cordoned off for pilgrims, while onlookers captured footage of the rising flames and smoke on their mobile phones.
Earlier, Kumbh Mela Chief Fire Officer Pramod Sharma stated that 15 fire tenders were deployed to control the blaze, which destroyed 18 tents.
Akhada Police Station In-charge Bhaskar Mishra confirmed that two LPG cylinders exploded in Sector 19, triggering a massive fire in the camps.
