Nagpur is set to add another monumental structure to its skyline as the Maharashtra government has announced plans to construct a 108-foot statue of Lord Shiva on the Wainganga River banks in Ambora, Bhandara district. This comes alongside the construction of the 151-foot NMRDA Hanuman Statue, making the region a growing hub for religious landmarks.
The Shiv statue project will be overseen by the Executive Engineer of the Gosikhurd Dam Division, with geotechnical investigations confirming site suitability after extensive soil testing conducted from January 28 to February 5, 2025. The site features black soil, sand boulders, and soft rock, with a water table recorded at 4 meters. The government has yet to disclose the final cost, but similar projects in India have ranged between ₹75 crore to ₹200 crore.
Once completed, this 108-foot structure will be Maharashtra’s tallest Shiva statue, surpassing the 85-foot Nashik statue, and joining India’s largest, including Murudeshwar’s 123-foot Shiva. With construction expected to begin soon, the statue is set to become a major religious and cultural landmark, further boosting Nagpur’s status as a spiritual tourism hub.
