The State-level 72nd Kabaddi Competition will be held K K Chemicals premises near Cadbury Square in Thane from March 19 to 23. The winning men’s team will be awarded the Shri Krishna Trophy, while the women’s team will get the Late Parvatibai Sandav Trophy. Selection of the team to represent Maharashtra State in the national tournament will be carried out through the tournament. The Tournament is also called the Chief Minister Cup Kabaddi Tournament 2025.
The tournament is being organised under the aegis of the Maharashtra State Kabaddi Association and hosted by Thane District Kabaddi Association. The tournament will be inaugurated at 6 pm on Wednesday in the presence of Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik, legislators Sanjay Kelkar, Niranjan Davkhare, and Municipal Commissioner Saurabh Rao.
President of Vishwas Social Organisation and BJP Thane Unit President Sanjay Waghule informed the media that 62 teams, 31 each of men and women will participate in the tournament. Earlier Thane hosted the tournament in 2014. Twenty players in men and women categories will be selected for the training camp, from which 12 each will represent Maharashtra State at the national level contests.
Besides Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawear, 24 Chhatrapati Award winners and 50 Arjun Award winners will visit and encourage the participants.
