Banks handling government transactions will stay open on March 31, even though it is a public holiday for Eid al-Fitr. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI), following the government’s instructions, has told agency banks to keep their branches open for public transactions on that day.
The RBI said, “The Government of India has requested that all bank branches dealing with government receipts and payments stay open on March 31, 2025 (Monday-Public Holiday) to complete all transactions for the financial year 2024-25.”
Agency banks have been asked to inform customers that banking services will be available on March 31. There are 33 agency banks, including public, private, and foreign banks, that are allowed to handle government transactions under Section 45 of the RBI Act.
